  1. What is licensure by reciprocity?

Licensure by reciprocity is the ability to rely on certification credentials, including education, training, examinations, and experience, from one state and apply them toward some or all of the licensure requirements of another state.

  1. How much does it cost for a reciprocity application?

The required water treatment plant, water distribution system, and domestic wastewater treatment plant operator reciprocity application fee is $100. All application fees are non-refundable. The department shall waive the application fee for a temporary operator license during a declared state of emergency.

  1. How long will it take for a review of submitted application?

Typical processing time for a complete application is 30 to 90 days due to allow time for required verification from external entities. You may follow up on the status of your application by emailing Operator.Certification@FloridaDEP.gov or calling our office at (850) 245-7500.

  1. Can I receive licensure by reciprocity in Florida if my operator’s license is from a different country?

§. 403.8721, Fla. Stat., does not provide for licensure by reciprocity for water treatment plant, water distribution system, and domestic wastewater treatment plant operators from another country who do not hold an active and valid license from another state, the Federal Government, a territory or tribal government that has been designated as the primary agency by the United States Environmental Protection Agency.  However, persons eligible to work lawfully in the United States may be eligible for licensure by examination in accordance with §. 403.872, Fla. Stat., and Chapter 62-602, Fla. Admin. Code.
