Florida is currently recycling more than is actually being reported. The exact same load of material that we deliver to our landfill sight during a dry period is generally weighed as anywhere from 5% to 15% lighter as after a rainy period. The extra water weight equals more revenue for the facility but is unfair to the local community and the hauler because nature will recycle that rainwater. Some method should be used to account for it at the landfill scales or at least the landfills should apply the additional revenues specifically to equipment and underground structures designed to both give nature a hand as well as provide proper accounting of real waste.
