Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
I believe emphasis should be made on the first two parts of the recycling triangle, that leaves us much less to recycle.
First, the state must absolutely do away with the plastic grocery bags. If they can do it in San Francisco, we can do it here. These are the single biggest poison to our environment.
Secondly, the state needs to levy a tax on all disposable goods. Manufacturers are emphasizing disposable cleaning products, disposable tableware, disposable anything. People are buying their own trash! This tax will be used to fund mining of landfills to get all the stuff that people are not recycling.
We need to start with ultimatums, not be nice and gentle and comfortable. This is a crisis. We do not need to pussy-foot around.
