    What is a bulletin board?
    A bulletin board is an online discussion site. It's sometimes also called a 'board' or 'forum'. It may contain several categories, consisting of forums, threads (comments) and individual posts.
    How is all this structured?
    The bulletin board as a whole contains various categories (broad subject areas), which themselves contain forums (more specific subject areas) which contain threads (comments or conversations on a topic) which are made up of individual posts (where a user writes something).
    Why should I register?
    Registration is free and enables you to use all the features. This includes: posting new threads (comments); replying to other peoples’ threads (comments); editing your posts; and receiving email notification of replies to posts and threads (comments) you specify.
    How do I register?
    You register by clicking on the Register link near the top of the page. You will be asked to choose a user name, password and enter a valid email address. In addition you will be asked to enter: your organization (enter none if applicable); street address; city; state; zip code and phone number. Once this is complete you will receive an “activation email” request sent to your email address. Important: to complete the registration process you must click on the link in this “activation email”. The administrator of the forum is then notified that the email is legitimate and you are accepted, which completes the registration process. This process helps eliminate spam.
    Please Note: do not use today's date for birthdate. The computer program will recognize you as under 13 years of age, and automatically add in COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) requirements, which will hinder the registration process. We do not use your birthdate for any purpose, but if you prefer not to enter it, please enter a date that indicates you are at least over 13 years old.
    Will entering my email address leave me open to spam?
    No. You can choose to hide it from other board users. The system won't display your email address unless you give permission.
    How do I manage my profile (personal) information?
    On the left hand side of the navigation bar is a link entitled “User CP” which is your User Control Panel. Once you are registered, and are logged in, you can access this panel to change information as needed.
    I forgot my password. What can I do?
    Click on the Forgot Your Password? link. This link brings up a page where you should enter your registered email address. An email will be sent to that address shortly, with instructions for resetting your password. Since passwords are encrypted, there is no way to resend your original password. This option provides you with the ability to reset your password. You must be able to receive emails to your registered email address for this to work. You may need to check your spam filters and folder if you do not see this email in a few minutes.
    How do I find my way around?
    When you click on a forum's name, you are taken to the list of threads (comments) it contains. A thread (comment) is a conversation between members or guests. Each thread (comment) starts out as a single post and grows as more individual posts are added by different users. To start a new thread (comment) simply click on the 'new thread (comment)' button.
    What are sticky threads (comments)?
    'Sticky' threads (comments) are created by moderators or administrators, and remain 'stuck' to the top of the listing. Their purpose is to keep important information visible and accessible at all times.
    How do I read a thread (comment)?
    To read a thread (comment), click on its title. Each post in a thread (comment) is created by a member.
    How do I reply to a thread (comment)?
    To post a reply to an existing thread (comment), click on the 'Post Reply' button. If the 'Post Reply' button does not appear, it means that you are not logged in as a member. Be sure to register and become a member by going to the registration page at
    How do I edit or delete my posts?
    If you have registered and are logged in, you can edit your posts. To do so click the Edit button by the particular post. If you need the post deleted entirely please contact the forum administrator at or
    How do I attach a file to a post?
    You need to be using the main 'New Post' or 'New Thread' (comment) page. To use the main 'New Post' page, click the 'Post Reply' button in the relevant thread (comment). On this page, below the message box, you will find a button labeled 'Manage Attachments'. Clicking this button will open a new window for uploading attachments. You can upload an attachment either from your computer or from another URL by using the appropriate box on this page. Alternatively you can click the Attachment Icon to open this page. To upload a file from your computer, click the 'Browse' button and locate the file. To upload a file from another URL, enter the full URL for the file in the second box on this page. Once you have completed one of the boxes, click 'Upload'. Once the upload is completed the file name will appear below the input boxes in this window. You can then close the window to return to the previous screen.
    What are multi-page views?
    When there are more threads (comments) to display than will fit on a single page, you may see the 'Page' box, which contains page numbers. This indicates that the list of threads (comments) has been split over two or more pages. Note: this method of splitting lists of items over many pages is used throughout.
    What does F.S. mean?
    F.S. is the abbreviation for Florida Statutes.
    Do I need to register more than one time to use the 75% Recycling Goal and the Retail Bags Report forums?
    No. Once you have completed the registration process you can access all information on the DEP Forums webpage.
    This web page is getting long, how do I make it easier to view?
    At the right hand side of each of the major categories (which are the dark blue lines): Florida Department of Environmental Protection Forums; Florida 75% Recycling Goal; and Florida 75% Recycling Goal Program Components; you will see a circular shaped image. Clicking on this image will expand and collapse that particular category.
