PSAWS are generally conducted at sites that have limited information regarding the presence of contamination. PSAWS include limited environmental sampling of sites and, in some cases, sites that are marginal candidates under the Pre-Remedial Superfund program may be eliminated from further consideration by conducting a PSAWS. On average, seven to eight environmental samples, including groundwater, soil and/or sediment samples, are collected for laboratory analysis. The sampling phase is preceded by various screening techniques to identify potential areas of contamination. PSAWS are conducted using a combination of FDEP, EPA SESD and/or State contractor resources. A report and draft HRS evaluation are completed following a review of the analytical data.
