Hazardous Waste Regulation
This section is responsible for the management of the statewide Hazardous Waste program which
includes interaction with EPA, district offices and other department programs pertaining to
Hazardous Waste compliance, enforcement and permitting. The section is also responsible for
the implementation of the federally delegated Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)
program, which issues permits for hazardous waste treatment, storage, and land disposal
facilities. Technical assistance and training are provided to the district offices and the
regulated community.

Solid Waste Management
This section is responsible for implementing the state's solid waste management program. It
administers the Financial Assurance Program and Full Cost Accounting for solid waste facilities.
Technical assistance is provided to the district offices concerning the permitting, compliance
and enforcement activities associated with solid waste facilities.

Waste Reduction
This section is responsible for several waste management program areas: state-wide recycling
and waste reduction, household hazardous waste, mercury lamps and devices, batteries, unwanted
medications, electronics scrap, and certain pesticides through Operation Cleansweep. Grants are
also provided to local governments for the implementation of solid waste management, innovative
recycling programs and household hazardous waste collection centers.
