Every county in the state of Florida has a household hazardous waste (HHW) program. These programs include permanent
collection facilities (one or multiple, staffed and unstaffed), collection events (regularly scheduled or once/twice a year events)
and even a few curbside collections. The Department encourages county HHW programs to develop standard operating procedures (SOPs)
to ensure the safe operation of HHW programs and compliance with applicable regulations.
The Department has developed some general recommended standards for HHW collection facilities. The Department, in partnership
with Florida county HHW staff, will revise these general recommendations from time to time.
Many county HHW programs have expanded the Department’s general recommendations into detailed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
specific to their facilities and operations. Here are several examples provided courtesy of those county programs. Please feel free
to use these as a basis for writing, expanding or modifying your program’s SOPs.
