Division of Waste Management Highlights
The Division of Waste Management works closely with the Department's district offices to implement state and federal laws to protect the environment from the improper handling and disposal of solid and hazardous wastes. This includes regulatory programs for waste facilities and pollutant storage systems, and non-regulatory activities such as financial and technical assistance for recycling and waste reduction. The Division also oversees and contracts for the cleanup of sites contaminated with petroleum products, drycleaning solvents, or other hazardous wastes. There are three bureaus within the Division of Waste Management - the Bureau of Petroleum Storage Systems, the Bureau of Solid and Hazardous Waste and the Bureau of Waste Cleanup.

Contaminated Site Information Now Online

DEP has launched an online tool that provides locational information about contaminated sites in Florida. The Contamination Locator Map, or CLM, enables the public to search for waste cleanup sites in close proximity to their home, neighborhood, or any identified location on a Florida map. Users may also subscribe to receive e-mail notifications when significant cleanup milestones occur at certain requested sites.

Public Notification of Discovery of Contamination

DEP is expanding its Public Notification process to advise property owners if pollution has been found on their property or in their neighborhood. The sites that were under assessment when the pollution was found are listed on the Property Owner Notification of Discovery of Pollution.
