The
Federal Environmental Protection Agency has delegated the responsibility
for administering the requirements of the Federal Safe Drinking Water
Act to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP). This
requirement includes issuing permits per FDEP rules and handling
enforcement actions for all public water systems. The FDEPs Southeast
District Office is the lead agency for those responsibilities in Martin,
Okeechobee and St. Lucie Counties; while Palm Beach, Broward and
Miami-Dade Counties permitting and compliance and enforcement
responsibilities have been delegated to the local county health
departments.
