Mick Michel is a Vietnam era veteran who served in the Marine Corps where he received training in advanced electronics.
After his service in the military, Mick went on to serve 20 years as a police officer, attaining the rank of Chief of Police.
For the past 16 years he has worked in the Information Technology field serving as a consultant to several different industries,
and worked as an IT supervisor for the Florida Department of Corrections-Southern Region. Born and raised in Iowa, Mick enjoys the outdoors,
motorcycle riding and major projects utilizing his skills as a fixer mason.
The duties of the Government Operations Consultant I are varied and
unpredictable. On a given day Mick may be called upon for response to and
resolution of issues in any of the areas for which he is responsible:

Maintenance and support of the entire South
District network including the district office in Fort Myers and the
branch office in Marathon;

Inventory control, specifications, purchase and planning;

Timely communication with the Office of Technology and Information
Services (OTIS)
in Tallahassee in order to maintain smooth operation of servers, frame
relays, routers and hubs;

Development and implementation of training plans and agendas;
-
Coordination with Geographic Information Systems staff;
-
And troubleshooting and technical assistance for challenges which DEP
staff encounter when working with the specialized software and hardware
necessary to perform their jobs.
