Cast a Vote, Plant a Tree -- in Florida’s State Parks
‘Plant a Tree’ is a program that partners state parks across the country with
Odwalla, a juice company based in California that has helped plant more than 160,000 trees in state parks since the program began in 2008. Its efforts support the environment with important tree planting and reforestation initiatives.
Last year Florida, along with 10 other states, participated in the Odwalla donation program and as a result received more than 12,000 longleaf pine tubelings which were planted in three Florida state parks -- Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park received 2,000, O’Leno State Park received 9,856 and Suwannee River State Park received 1,250 longleaf pine tubelings.
For 2010, Odwalla has expanded the program into a competition for all 50 states. To cast a vote for a particular state, Odwalla web visitors just click on their particular state. Each click that Florida receives will result in one dollar that will go toward helping with restoration projects and tree plantings in its state parks. This year’s total of trees to be planted is valued at $200,000.
Voting begins on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, so be sure to bookmark the website,
www.odwalla.com, now as a reminder. On May 25, go to the website, click on ‘plant a tree’ and sign in to help Florida receive new trees for some of its award-winning state parks. Visitors can vote multiple times, but are limited to only one vote per computer. The more who sign on, the more trees Florida’s state parks will receive, so remember to ‘cast a vote and plant a tree,’ beginning May 25th!
