MARION COUNTY - Through efforts conducted by the Florida Department of
Environmental Protection’s (DEP) Office of Greenways & Trails, improvements to
address the safety and usability of the Shangri-La recreation area of the
Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway will soon be underway.
As of June 1, 2011, the Shangri-La trailhead and recreation area (12788 SW
69th Court, Ocala, FL 34476; N-29.0379/W-82.2406) will be closed for the
construction of a new equestrian campground and day use facility. Public access
to this trailhead will be fully restricted for approximately seven months.
However, trails in the area will remain open and accessible via the 49th Avenue
or Ross Prairie Trailheads of the Cross Florida Greenway.
The anticipated completion date for these improvements, which will include
restrooms and picnic shelters, is January, 2012. For updates, see
