Bridge Repairs Taking Place on the Gilchrist County Portion of the Nature Coast State Trail

~Trail improvements will temporarily require a detour on a portion of the trail~

GILCHRIST COUNTY – Through efforts conducted by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) Office of Greenways and Trails, improvements to the safety and usability of the Nature Coast State Trail are underway. Repairs are being made on a bridge located along the segment of the trail between the Suwannee River and the Trail’s Wilcox (“T”) Junction in Gilchrist County.

The bridge will be closed to the public during the construction project, which is designed to stabilize and support the asphalt trail where it joins the wooden bridge. Trail users will be detoured around the bridge site and instructed to use the adjacent equestrian trail as an alternate route. The anticipated completion date for these improvements is June 4, 2011.
