ORLANDO - The Florida Department of Environmental
Protection’s (DEP) Office of Environmental Education
will join kayakers and hikers from Expedition
Headwaters: An Everglades Journey to Remember to conduct
field labs with Hunters Creek Middle School students.
The labs, conducted on the Kissimmee River, will focus
on watersheds, wetlands and aquatic ecosystems.
As the headwaters of America’s Everglades, the
mission of the expedition is to increase awareness of
the hydrological and ecological connection of the
Orlando metropolitan area with the unique Everglades
ecosystem. Team members will observe and learn about the
state’s extensive restoration efforts, view restored
portions of the Kissimmee River and participate in the
area’s excellent recreational opportunities.
The event will take place:
