Professional development workshops for charter school teachers
The Office of Environmental Education has partnered with the Florida Department of Education's Office of Independent Education and Parental Choice to offer
FREE environmental, science and technology based professional development workshops around the state specifically for charter school teachers. Teachers can choose from workshops such as Project WET, Project WILD, Project Learning Tree, GLOBE (Global Learning and Observations Benefitting the Environment), Green Schools, and others. These interdisciplinary education programs feature hands-on learning activities that make these topics come alive for students. In addition to learning new teaching ideas for use in science, math, social studies, language arts, physical education, music, and visual arts, teachers receive instructional manuals and are eligible for in-service points. View the currently scheduled workshops below, and stay up to date by visiting the
comprehensive listing of upcoming workshops. If you are a teacher or an administrator, and are interested in bringing a workshop to your school, please contact

LIFE Summer Institutesutes
LIFE Summer Institutes are multi-day teacher professional development workshops that focus primarily on new LIFE sites or projects. Teachers test and refine field labs and review other elements of the LIFE program such as student assessment, service learning, and enhancing cultural competency. These institutes are often opened up to other interested teachers to participate.

Research Experiences for Teachers
The SEMESTER@DEP program provides a unique opportunity for teachers to
participate in ongoing research or monitoring programs alongside DEP staff.
Teachers work as temporary DEP employees from four to six weeks during the
summer. This program targets new science teachers, minority science teachers,
and science teachers from underserved or low performing schools.
- In Summer 2008, DEP hosted 24 teachers for hands-on research projects
as part of the Panhandle Area Education Consortium's (PAEC) Science Collaboration: Immersion, Inquiry, Innovation
or Sc:iii project. Read about their experience:
