The LIFE Gulf-To-Bay Program, funded by a 2 year NOAA B-WET (Bay Watershed Education and Training) grant, is a partnership between the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (Office of Environmental Education), Pinellas County Schools, Southwest Florida Water Management District, Tampa Bay Watch, Weedon Island Preserve, and Pinellas County?s Florida Sea Grant Marine Extension Program.
The Gulf-To-Bay project focuses mainly on middle school students, but will be engaging both high school and elementary students during the school year. Eighth grade students from Bay Point Middle School will participate in science-based field experiences at
Sawgrass Lake Park,
Weedon Island Preserve, and
Tampa Bay Watch. Additionally, select students from Lakewood High School will serve as mentors to the Bay Point students during the three field experiences and will assist with lab delivery and guidance. Finally, both groups will work together to present an environmental education fair for Campbell Park Elementary students in the spring.
