The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Office of
Environmental Education will host Earth Day at the Capitol on April
19, 2013, from 9 am to 3 pm at the Florida Capitol.
Earth Day attendees include a mixed audience of elementary, middle and high
school students and community members. More than 1,000 elementary students
attended previous Earth Day events. Numerous exhibitors from state agencies, the community
and local high schools are expected to be on hand to celebrate Earth Day 2013.
Check-in for the Earth Day at the Capitol will be at the Office of
Environmental Education Booth. You cannot miss us as we are located in the
Big Top Tent!
This year’s event will highlight “Greening STEM: Taking Technology
Outdoors”
A series of STEM Challenges will be available for students of all ages.
Activities will include the following:
- Six STEM mini-challenge competitions for students
- Green STEM Exhibits
- STEM career information
- Green School information
Parking concerns? Though we do not have any special areas reserved
for parking you might consider parking at the Civic Center. In past years many
bus drivers have been able to use this area so it might be a good place to
start.

Teachers
Earth Day at the Capitol will feature a variety of interactive displays and
offer a multitude of ideas for teachers and students. If you are interested in
attending, please fill out and send a
Teacher Registration Form to Lauren Penny
at DEP. Teachers can register up to the day of the event. However, to reserve a
spot in a STEM Challenge activity, teachers are encouraged to pre-register as
soon as possible.
