Welcome to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP)
online source for information on the American Recovery and
Reinvestment Act (ARRA) - the nation's economic stimulus package.
On this website, you can see how DEP is using the ARRA money. You
will find information on the programs and projects that will receive
funding, and the way we distribute that funding to communities
throughout the state.
The federal stimulus package provides nearly $300 million to the
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for state programs
administered by DEP.
The environmental areas for which DEP is receiving ARRA funds are:
• Diesel Emissions Reduction (DERA):
Florida is expected to receive $1.7 million to award grants and
contracts to retrofit school buses, electrify rest stops to cut down
the need for truck idling, and provide rebates for truck auxiliary
power units to reduce diesel emissions.

Florida is expected to receive $11.2 million to help clean up
leaking underground petroleum storage tanks that have been abandoned
or have no viable responsible party (“orphan sites”). Qualifying
candidate projects are currently being evaluated from a list of 15
orphan sites.
• Brownfields: Florida is expected to receive $750,000 that
EPA will use to award grants to local governments for brownfield
projects. The projects will be selected from local government
brownfield grant applications submitted to EPA in October 2008.
