Bus schedule announced for Keys residents who want to evacuate .Emergency Management officials advise residents that when the planned general population evacuation begins today (Saturday), there will be bus service available to residents who do not have transportation. Residents can also call the county emergency hotline at 1-800-955-5504 or the City of Key West hotline at 305-809-1108 to get exact times and locations of bus stops. The bus service for evacuation to FIU is free. JGT will continue their regularly scheduled routes (copy of their arrival and departure schedule attached) and pick up any evacuees to FIU from Marathon to Key Largo. Buses will basically stop at numerous locations along U.S. Highway One. Residents who want to board the buses can also flag down the drivers along U.S. One. . There will be a bus waiting in the Wal-Mart parking lot in Florida City that will carry evacuees to the FIU shelter in Miami Dade County

The City of Key West Department of Transportation is offering free shuttle bus service to take Key West and lower Keys residents who want voluntarily to evacuate to the Monroe County hurricane shelter at Florida International University in Miami. The service is available from 6 a.m. to midnight Thursday and Friday. Caged pets with current vaccination records will be allowed on the buses. Advanced registration for the bus is no longer necessary. Pick up locations in Key West are the Douglass Gym in Bahama Villlage, Flagler Avenue at Key West High School, Searstown, in front of the Champs store, the bus stop at the Florida Keys Community College campus on College Road and Bernstein Park on Stock Island. Lower Keys pickup locations are: Boca Chica, MM 8; Big Coppitt, MM10, Bay Point, MM 15, Sugarloaf Key, MM 20; Cudjoe Key, MM 22.5; Summerland Key, MM 25; Big Pine Key, MM 30; Marathon Key, 53rd St, MM 50.
