Florida and Georgia Shelter Status
TALLAHASSEE – In the threat of Hurricane Frances, shelters
across Georgia and Florida are providing space for evacuating residents.
Be advised, an evacuation means people should move tens of miles and not
hundreds of miles. In order to ensure safe travel for mandatory
evacuees, please do not evacuate if you have not been asked to do so.
Shelters are open in counties across the state of Florida. For
specific information regarding shelters in your area, call the American
Red Cross at 1-800-HELP-NOW or the Florida Emergency Information Line at
1-800-342-3557.
Georgia shelters are open in Colquitt, Cook, Echols, Glynn, Lowndes,
and Sumter counties. For specific information regarding Georgia
shelters, call (404) 635-7154.
