The Office of Greenways & Trails (OGT) is working to establish a
statewide system of greenways and trails for
recreation, conservation, and alternative transportation. Our
efforts are guided by a legislatively adopted plan titled "Connecting
Florida's Communities." View

FUNDING
OGT provides grants for the development of both motorized and
non-motorized recreational trail projects through the
Recreational Trails Program.
We also administer the $4.5 million
Florida Greenways and Trails Land
Acquisition Program under the Florida Forever Act.
COORDINATION & DESIGNATION
OGT's Regional
Greenways and Trails Coordinators (PDF 261 kb) work
directly with local governments, developers, private
landowners and state and federal agencies to facilitate the
establishment of the statewide system of greenways and trails.
The Office also administers the
Florida Greenways and
Trails Designation Program which formally defines the
statewide system through designation of public and private
lands.
PUBLIC INFORMATION
In order to educate and inform Florida residents and
visitors about greenways and trails, OGT publishes the
quarterly
Connections E-newsletter, offers the online Florida
Greenways and Trails Guide and downloadable brochures for each
of the State Trails along with a series of brochures produced
in partnership with Visit Florida highlighting Florida hiking,
biking, paddling and equestrian trails. A 17-page
children’s coloring and activity booklet features a classroom
journey through a connected system of greenways and trails "The
Greenways and Trails Journey" Activity Book (pdf 5.6 mb)
relates to Grades Kindergarten-5.
LAND MANAGEMENT
OGT manages several State
Trails throughout Florida and the
Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway, a 110 mile
long conservation and recreation corridor spanning Putnam,
Marion, Citrus and Levy counties in north central Florida.
The Greenway includes a network of hiking, biking, equestrian
and paddling trails.
