The Office of Greenways and Trails
2018-2022 FGTS Plan and Maps

The New Vision for the Florida Greenways and Trails System...If you like to paddle, hike, bike or ride horses on trails, we need to hear from you! The Office of Greenways and Trails (OGT) is updating their five year plan along with the statewide opportunity and priority trail maps. Many trails are eligible for certain types of funding if they are on one or both maps.

As part of the update, OGT will hold workshops throughout the state -- from Milton to Miami -- to receive input from trail users, local planners and the public. The September workshops were postponed due to Hurricane Irma, so stay tuned for the new schedule. The final draft of the plan and maps will be brought before the Florida Greenways and Trails Council in January.

The FGTS Plan establishes the vision for implementing a connected statewide system of greenways and trails for recreation, conservation, alternative transportation, healthy lifestyles, a vibrant economy and a high quality of life. The original FGTS Plan was completed in 1998 and adopted by the Florida Legislature in 1999, laying the groundwork for many programs, projects and initiatives which exist today. The FGTS Plan and Priority Maps were last updated in 2012 and the visioning maps (Opportunity Maps) updated in 2015. The updated FGTS Plan and maps will guide implementation of the connected statewide trail system from 2018 through 2022.

Please review the draft Plan and maps below and provide input using this comment form in PDF or this comment form in Word and send it by e-mail to Samantha.Browne@dep.state.fl.us or by conventional mail to: Samantha Browne, Office of Greenways and Trails, 3900 Commonwealth Blvd., MS 795, Tallahassee, FL 32399. We want all comments in writing. Comments will be accepted until December 15, 2017. The proposed plan and maps will be brought before the Florida Greenways and Trails Council at their January meeting (TBD) for a final vote.
