  • Recycled Oyster Shell Bagging

    Ellyson Industrial Park, 3000 Environmental Place, Pensacola, FL
    Join Northwest Florida Aquatic Preserves and the University of West Florida Student Environmental Action Society for an oyster bagging event. The bags will be deployed in Bayou Grande in partnership with Escambia County to build 39 oyster reefs along the shoreline.
    We ask that all volunteers wear closed toe shoes, dress according to the weather and bring a refillable water bottle. We do have water and work gloves available, however any personal items such as food, snacks, sunscreen, hats will be on your own accord. Please coordinate with either Beth Fugate at beth.l.fugate@dep.state.fl.us or Zach Schang at Zachary.schang@dep.state.fl.us with any questions or to rsvp for an event.

    What to bring/wear: Close-toed shoes, sunscreen and gloves (we have extra for those needing them).
    What you will be doing: You will be bagging oyster shell. The bags will be deployed in Bayou Grande. Our goal is 500 bags (20 lb. each) or 10,000 lbs. Oyster shell will be placed at a later date in reefs in Bayou Grande.
