The estuarine environment of Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (RBNERR) provides an ideal setting
for a variety of recreational activities, including sportfishing, boating, hiking, sailing, bird watching or
simply enjoying the aesthetics of the area. RBNERR has worked to enhance these experiences by adding canoe and
kayak launch sites, designated camping sites, interpretive trails and designated camping sites.
Regular kayak tours are offered through the Friends
of Rookery Bay.
The Rookery Bay Environmental Learning Center (ELC) adds to these recreation opportunities. It serves as a
visitor center, enhancing understanding of estuarine systems through interpretive exhibits, aquaria and
naturalist-led programs. The ELC also has a pedestrian bridge over Henderson Creek, linking the center to an
interpretive trail and boardwalk. The ELC hosts events such as the Southwest Florida Wildlife and Nature Festival throughout
the year. For daily events, please check the calendar of events.
