An Invasive plant is a non-native plant that not only has established but is expanding on its own in the Florida native plant communities. The state of Florida has one of the most severe exotic species problems in the country, as of 2011. Despite the millions of dollars that have been spent on controlling the spread of invasive plants in Florida (about $100 million each year), the rapid and effective dispersal characteristics of these invaders make them extremely difficult to eliminate. As some of these invasive plants still remain in the landscapes as they were previously brought in for horticultural purposes, preventing the introduction of new ones and the spread of existing invasive plants is the most effective and least inexpensive way to protect our natural habitats from these invaders. This training will describe some of the most common and troublesome invasive exotic plants in Southwest Florida and appropriate control methods, including proper use of herbicides.

This event provides the following CEU's: 4 FDACS, 4 FNGLA, 3 City of Naples, 3.5 Category 1 CF, and up to 13 ISA.
