    Cultural History
Join Brendan Burke, Archaeologist and Logistical Coordinator for a discussion about the Transition from British Plantation to Menorcan Farmstead: Preliminary Results from Excavations at the Tolomato Bar.

Excavations at the Tolomato Bar Anchorage Site in St. Johns County, Florida has revealed components of a multi-occupation historic site, most notably components from a British Period plantation and Second Spanish Period Menorcan farmstead. During the summer of 2007-2008 years, research focused on recording foreshore activity relating to wharfage and water access for this maritime/agrarian settlement. Two features in particular were explored which helped to place the site into a broader historical context. This paper documents these efforts and addresses distinctions in land use patterns between British colonial plantation life and emergent Menorcan yeomanry.
