Description

The DEP Biscayne Bay Aquatic Preserves office, in conjunction with FIU professor Dr. Elizabeth Lacey, will be offering an introduction to macroalgae via the "Sensational Seaweeds Seminar and Kayak" on Saturday, June 15th from 10:30am-12:30pm. This program is open to the public but is perfect for eco-tourism operators, naturalists and environmental professionals. This seminar is also a good resource for educators who are interested in teaching students about estuarine SAV (submerged aquatic vegetation).

This free program will be held at the DEP Biscayne Bay Environmental Center located at 1277 NE 79th Street on the JFK Causeway in Miami. Space is limited - pre-registration is required. For those interested in assisting with collection of macroalgae samples (for microscopy during the seminar), please bring your own kayak or paddleboard and arrive two hours in advance. For more information, contact Susan Leser at Susan.Leser@dep.state.fl.us or (305) 795-3485.
