Bayologist Homeschool Days

Autumn Series:  TUESDAYS! September 26, October 17, and November 21 10am-1pm

Outdoor learning on Biscayne Bay � Bayologist Days - experiential days of educational enrichment and discovery. DROP THE KIDS OFF (age 6 and up) - a Stay and Play Family Program Day may also be an option - depends on the day.

Join Biscayne Bay Aquatic Preserves' Eco Education Program for this exciting and enriching marine-study series.  Each workshop will include a theme of marine-study, an activity or experiment, and an outdoor cooperative game. Each month a different special event will be planned, this Autumn Season will include:  planting mangroves and cleaning up after Hurricane Irma; in October, we will have a bay boat cruise and island-hopping on the Pelican Skipper, and in November there will be a behind-the-scenes visit to the Seabird Station.  

Tuesday October 17, 2017, 10am-1pm

Bayology of the Bay by Boat - Exploration and Island-Hopping - Boating the Preserves! A Look at Vertebrates and Invertebrates.  

A further study of Biscayne Bay Aquatic Preserves and the ecosystems within its boundaries. 

 Students, age 6 and up, and/or families, will spend the day out on the bay on-board the Pelican Skipper catamaran. 

Travel the bay and explore the waters and islands. Explore the water from above and just below the surface as you cruise, paddle and dip your nets in the bay.  Search for signs of marine mammals and fish from above, and get to know nearby invertebrates as you dip below. Get your hands dirty as you do your part and clean up the islands. (Safety gloves and grabbers will be provided).  

Advance Registration Required...participation is limited.
Once registered you will receive all the meeting details the week of the event.
Drop-off Program only an option for children age 6 and up. - a Stay and Play Family Program Day is also an option if you have younger kids. If choosing the Family Stay and Play option - babies and toddlers, 3 and under, are welcome and do not need to be added into program fee unless only child.  

All proceeds go to support the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Preserves.

  • We are unable to provide refunds. 
  • Event is rain or shine.
  • Severe weather may result in a canceled event. Choose a credit toward a future event, or choose to donate to the preserves.

Bayology of Birds -  Behind the Scenes at Seabird Sanctuary - A Look at Adaptations

A further study of Biscayne Bay Aquatic Preserves and the life it supports. Students, age 6 and up, and/or families, will spend the day behind-the-scenes of the Seabird Station.  Follow the path of migrating birds and learn why South Florida is an important stop-over or destination.  Play Bird Beak Buffet and learn how an eagle differs from a seagull.  Explore the Seabird Station and learn how you can make a difference in the life of a bird and how you can protect all animals.  Get your hands dirty as you do your part and help our local wildlife.
