Summer by the Bay!

Birds of the Air! Mammals of the Sea!

Get to know Biscayne Bay as the season slides into summer - campers will immerse themselves in the bay environment by participating in fun activities like boating, paddling, netting, playing ecology team games, and doing varied marine activities and experiments. Campers have the option to spend one or two weeks with the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Preserves - on their way to becoming a Junior Bayologist.

Dolphins will jump, manatees will munch and birds will fly! This summer, campers will follow the flight of our local sea and shore birds and the travels of our mega-fauna mammals of the sea, like the bay-loving dolphins and manatees.

Explore the bay by boat! For at least two of the five days, we set sail on the Pelican Skipper to travel around the bay by boat - to explore the islands - identify native flora and fauna, net the shores and search for marine-life, and wade and splash and play in a safe outdoor environment.

Every camper learns how to protect and preserve Biscayne Bay, and upon completion of three seasons of camp, becomes a "Junior Bayologist" - gaining a Junior Bayologist Certificate and a photo with a BBAP Marine Biologist.

What should your camper have ready?

  • Packed lunch with minimal or no waste.
  • Reusable/eco-friendly water bottle - no Styrofoam allowed at marina and plastic is discouraged.
  • Insect and Sun Protection - we encourage the use of reef friendly, eco products, as well as hats and sun shirts.
  • Water shoes are mandatory for water activities.
  • Swim Clothes, bag for wet items and change.
  • Towel.
  • Hats and sunglasses if desired.
  • Other closed-toe shoes for all other camp activities and flip flops for flopping around base camp and for bathrooms.
