Field trips for organized groups are
scheduled by calling the Reserve at (850) 670-7700, Mon. –
Friday from 8-5.
Land-Based Field Trips

Visit to the Nature Center
This activity can be conducted with all age groups with groups no larger
than 45 participants. The visit involves watching the Reserve's feature film and touring the exhibits and
aquaria with staff. This activity will require about 90 minutes.

St. George Island State Park
This activity is best suited for students from about 4th grade through
high school. Groups cannot exceed 40 in number. Students will conduct a study of organisms that inhabit an
oyster reef and use a seine net to catch and identify small fish and invertebrates (Weather dependent). The
activity requires about 90 minutes.

Boat-Based Field Trips: High School and College-aged Students

Apalachicola Bay Ecology Study
This activity is reserved for high school and college-aged groups.
Groups must be between 15-25 students + chaperones in number. Students will use an otter trawl and other
sampling gear to study the bay ecosystem. (Weather and boat availability dependent). This activity requires
3-4 hours.

Apalachicola River Ecology Study
This activity is reserved for high school and college-aged groups.
Groups must be between 15-25 students + chaperones in number. Students will visit various habitats along the
river and learn about basin-wide issues for the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint System (Weather and boat availability dependent). This
activity requires 4-5 hours.

center are Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00a.m. – 4:30p.m. but staff are also available for scheduling on
Mondays.
