Clean Vessel Act Quick Links

Clean Vessel Act Logo The Clean Vessel Act (CVA) of 1992 was signed into law to reduce pollution from vessel sewage discharges, prohibiting the discharge of raw sewage into fresh water or within coastal salt-water limits. The act established a federal grant program administered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, which to date has awarded nearly $150 million for states to install thousands of sewage pumpout stations. The program, housed within DEPs Office of Sustainable Initiatives, provides grants for construction and installation of sewage pumpout facilities and purchase of pumpout boats and educational programs for boaters.

Testimonial from current CVA pumpout grant recipient:

Cocoa Village MarinaCocoa Village Marina located in downtown Cocoa, Florida, received a Clean Vessel Act grant for funding to renovate their existing pumpout system.

“Thanks to the Clean Vessel Act Program, Cocoa Village Marina was able to upgrade from our one station pumpout. The marina's pump-out system now encompasses the entire facility, and can service each of our 117 slips,” said Ken Charles, Manager.

Cocoa Village Marina's customers and the local community recognize this major improvement as part of the Clean Marina Designation; as our ongoing commitment and respect for the environment. The CVA staff were very informative and made the entire grant process easy. This renovation from start to finish went smoothly."
