Shoreline Stabilization     Central District Highlights

To CD Home >SLERP>

David Herbster, Administrator

Seawalls, riprap and other shoreline stabilization structures
may require a permit or authorization from DEP
before you build.

Here's a guide to Shoreline stabilization

Why does DEP care about the these structures?

To Protect

  • Florida's fragile waterways

  • Beach and dune system

  • Upland property along the shoreline

The State of Florida owns the submerged lands on which many of these structures are built.

Before construction, you may need to obtain a permit from DEP to build a seawall or riprap, and authorization from DEP to use the State's submerged lands.
