Secondary Contaminants

Secondary Contaminants:

• A list of contaminants to be sampled for can be seen in Rule 62-550, Table 6.  Most of the contaminants are aesthetic in nature and pose no health risks.

• Examples of secondary contaminants include aluminum, copper, iron, sulfate, zinc, and color.

Who is required to sample?

• All community water systems must conduct Secondary contaminants sampling in accordance with Chapters 62-550.519 and 62-550.520.

When are Secondary Contaminants required to be sampled?

• Secondary contaminants must be sampled once each compliance period, once every 3 years.
