
Safety Program Administrator
Responsibility for the overall implementation of the Department's Health and Safety Program is
vested to the Division of Administrative Services. In as much, the
activities of the Health and Safety Program are delegated to a Safety
Program Administrator. The Safety Program Administrator's name and
telephone/office number should be posted on the bulletin board (s) where
other safety information is routinely maintained.
In accordance with
the Department's safety and injury prevention program, the Safety Program
Administrator has been designated as the Responsible Safety Officer and has
the responsibility, under the authority and supervision of the Secretary, to
do the following in the name of the Department of Environmental Protection:

Review policies of safe practices for each function within the Department.

Ensure that safe operating policies for use of equipment is consistent with
manufacturer's recommendations and specifications.

Develop and implement a system to encourage employees to report unsafe conditions
immediately.

Ensure that a thorough review of each accident, whether or not it results in an
injury, is conducted to determine the cause of the accident and to prevent recurrence.

Ensure that Safety Program Coordinators instruct supervisors in safety responsibilities.

Ensure that a program of employee safety education is implemented.

Conduct scheduled and unscheduled inspections to identify and correct unsafe
working conditions. Special attention shall be given to notice
of serious concealed dangers.

Ensure that
training records, periodic inspections, corrective actions and
investigations are maintained as required by law.

Establish a Department Safety Advisory Board (SAB) and
conduct, at a minimum, quarterly meetings of the Committee.

Pursuant to Chapter 285.50, Florida Statutes (F.S.), report annually to the
Governor by the 15th of January any actions taken to prevent
job-related employee accidents, together with suggestions for
safeguards and improvements.
Some of these responsibilities may, at the discretion of the Safety Program
Administrator, be delegated to SAB members
for implementation.
