Highlands EnviroFuels, LLC (HEF) is proposing to construct and operate an advanced biofuel ethanol
biorefinery and biomass cogeneration power plant on a 75-acre industrial site, located approximately
0.5 mile south-southwest of the intersection of U.S. 27 and State Road (SR) 70, south of Lake Placid, in
Highlands County, Florida. The HEF facility will have a design production capacity of
30 million gallons per year (MGY) of ethanol using feedstock of sugarcane and sweet sorghum grown
on nearby farmland. The facility will combust primarily sugarcane bagasse and sweet sorghum bagasse,
generated from the ethanol production process, in a boiler to generate steam and up to 30 megawatts
(MW) gross electric generation.
